When I was a young baby I sat on your knee
Through childish woes you were there for me
In teen times of trouble it was you I ran to
And granddad I want to pay tribute to you
When I wanted to marry and money was short
You went out and the entire wedding was bought
And when I was foolish and ruined my life
You firmly but gently talked me out of my strife
I remember once when I was but a wee lad
I tore my new clothes paid for me by my dad
You said not a word but dried my small eyes
And we faced my dad standing side by side
And once when I broke grans special cup
You told her you did it, and you took the ruck.
When I was caught smoking u made me sick
Never wanted another after smoking a wick!
A thousand more memories happy and sad
And now you are gone just THIS one is bad
Sleep well granddad my teacher and mate
I know you’ll wait for me at heavens gate.
I love you granddad
