Poetry: all the words you need

Where a Word can do more than a Sword.

Poetry dedicatet to a Dad

My Dad

Who plays football and thinks he’s Charlton?
Who acts like a kid and drinks from the carton?
Who told me the moon is made of green cheese?
Who teaches me manners but never says please?

Who dressed up to scare mum by wearing a sheet?
Who thinks matchstick models are ever so neat?
Who pinches my toys and plays like a child?
Who thinks mayo on fries is the ultimate wild?

Who sneaks me a tenner, and lets me go out?
Then pacifies mum when she starts to shout
Who covers his bald bits with a stray hair or two?
My wonderful chubby old daddy is who!

Cya Dad

Taking time to remember
When i was so small
We didn’t have much
But i still had it all

If you made a promise
That promise was kept
If i knew how it cost
How i would have wept

You worked every day
So i could have all
Then even found time
For us to play ball

How fast i grew up
And dad you got old
But i didn’t notice
You started to fold

And now is the time
To lay you to rest
Cya Dad my mate
You made me so blessed

Miss ya Dad

All i have of you is an old faded photo
I don’t know your name or where you are
I have no idea if i have sisters or brothers
I just know you drove away in an old ford car

No-one will talk about you, not even a clue
So you see i know nothing at all about you
I just know you exist, but you went away
And not knowing anything makes me so blue

I have blue eyes and fair hair not like mums
So maybe this is something like yours?
I would just like to know if you think of me too
But all i’m hitting are firmly closed doors

Want to tell you i miss you, cos you are my dad
And to know why you left me and went away
And more than just this, i want to know you
And invite you to my wedding day.
